My second graders learned about Pablo Picasso and made these collages. This project takes three 45 minute periods. On day one we cut out two face-shaped ovals. We drew and cut out a profile line with bumps for a nose, lips, and chin down the middle of one of the ovals. Then we glued one of the profiles to the uncut oval. We added in 'wonky' picasso-like eyes. Day two we glued our head to a background paper, making sure to glue near the top so you have room for a neck and body. We collaged on hair, ears, a neck, and a shirt. Day three we collaged on any last details to our shirt and we outlined our portrait with black tempera paint.
