Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document the art that is created in my beautifully messy New York City art room. Hope you have a nice stay!

Our Art Room

Our Art Room

I thought I'd share some photos of how the art room is set up.  The things I consider the most when setting up each year are:

Accessibility:  Can everyone reach what they need to get?

Organization: Does everyone know where to get and put back the supplies? Does everyone know where their art should go when cleaning up?

Movement: How does everyone fit at the table? (especially when they are working on large pieces of paper) On the rug? Can everyone see the board? Is there a place for classes to line up?

Display: Where should art be hung? Year-round displays (like the elements of art chart) should be big and hung securely. Where are larger works like classroom murals going to go while they are being worked on? Are there spaces to hang work for classroom gallery walks?

The tables are color-coded and I can fit five chairs at each.

The table bins are color coded to match the tables and I table where they go so kids can easily get and put back.  I make two bins for each table, one with drawing materials and one with glue and scissors for cutting.

Our classroom rules are big and posted where everyone can see them.

We use the Art Inspiration Board to post inspiration images used throughout the year.

We also use it to look at each other's artwork :)

Paper is easily accessible and labeled.

Our sink has signs that remind kids how to wash and store the brushes.

I usually display books that I read and use for projects throughout the year.
