Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document the art that is created in my beautifully messy New York City art room. Hope you have a nice stay!

Symmetry Bugs

Symmetry Bugs

We made symmetrical bugs inspired by the book, 'A Beetle is Shy' written by Dianna Hutts Aston and beautifully illustrated by Sylvia Long.

First graders learned how to make symmetrical bugs. We folded our papers vertically and using india ink we painted one half of our bug. Then we folded over our paper and rubbed it to print the other side.  Our science teacher had just completed a bug unit with them, so they already had lots of knowledge about the different parts of bugs. We painted and printed each body part at a time. Then we used glittery and metallic watercolors to paint our bugs.
